Wolframs ReiseIntervention, ErtaAle volcano, Afar Region, Danakil Depression, Ethiopia 2012
In 2012 the artist Felix Kiessling travelled to the open, active shield volcano Erta Ale to throw an object made of tungsten into the earth's interior and send it on its long and irreversible journey towards the centre of the world. The high density of the tungsten material, and its extreme melting point of 3422°C, allows the sphere to work its way down to 5000km below the Earth's surface, and with some luck, touch the center of our planet.2012 reiste der Künstler Felix Kiessling zum offenen, aktiven Schildvulkan Erta Ale, um eine Kugel aus Wolfram ins Erdinnere zu schmeissen und auf die Reise Richtung Mittelpunkt der Erde zu schicken. Die hohe Dichte des Wolfram Materials, und sein hoher Schmelzpunkt von 3422°C, erlauben der Kugel sich bis zu 5000km unter die Eroberfläche vorzuarbeiten und mit einigem Glück den Mittelpunkt unseres Planeten zu berühren.
