Der Sprung (How the Earth shakes when I jump)Performance, Berlin 2014Inkjet print / drawing diptych, Berlin 2014Publication 'Der Sprung (How the Earth shakes when I jump', Berlin 2014IBB Preis für Photographie 2014In an elaborate calculation Felix Kiessling illustrates how the planet's celestial mechanics cushion his impact – the moment he jumps up and falls back onto ground again. The effect is incredible small, still mathematically feasible: 'When I jump, the Earth slows down by 1.674032409267443 x 10-22 meters per second. (At this velocity, both masses cover a distance of 1 meter in 189421613394216 years.) When I jump, the Earth‘s elliptical orbit decreases in its semi-major-axis by 0.3 mm and in its semi-minor-axis by 0.2 mm' 'Wenn ich springe, verlangsamt sich die Bewegung der Erde um 1,674032409267443 x 10-22 Meter pro Sekunde. Wenn ich springe, verkleinert sich die elliptische Erdumlaufbahn in ihrerHalbhauptachse um 0,3 mm und in ihrer Halbnebenachse um 0,2 mm.' Thank you Jan Philipp Pade for your mathematical support & IBB Preis für Photographie 2014.
