Zeitzeichnungen (time drawings)
2011 – Ongoing
In an attempt to not only depict time, but conserve 'duration' and capture time in a literal sense, Kiessling attaches little rocks of graphite to a clock’s second hand and lets clock and time do the rest. Each second leaves a mark. Each second gets embedded in the drawing. The drawing keeps evolving over the time. The initial, assymmetrical chunk of graphite keeps changing shape due to the slow abrasion. Complex patterns start to appear. The lighter the chunk gets, the more chaotic its momentum. Seismic vibrations, movements in the room, and the fact 'that you can not avoid spilling coffee over the drawing, when you have it working for you in your studio over the years' the artist argues, keep influencing the drawing process and establish a close dialog with space and people around.
