In 1965 Benoit Mandelbrot asked: How long is the coast of Great Britain?
In his search for the northernmost, outermost, furthest points of a land mass, the artist takes material from the coast, be it a piece of outermost cliff, be it a grain of sand, in order to examine it with an ESEM electron microscope and make the attempt, to find the even further end of this land mass. Tragically, an outermost point and objective measure for the length of a coast cannot be found. Both depend on precision and resolution of the measuring and viewing instrument. Both - without their subjective observation - do not exist.

Auf der suche nach den nördlichsten, äussersten, weitesten Punkten einer Landmasse, entnimmt der Künstler der Küste Material, sei es ein Stück äusserste Klippe, sei es ein Sandkorn, um es später mit einem ESEM Elektronenmikroskop zu untersuchen und den Versuch zu unternehmen, das noch weitere Ende dieses Zipfels zu finden, nur um tragischer Weise festzustellen, dass der nördlichste Punkt und ein objektives Mass für die Länge einer Küste nicht zu finden ist, dass beide abhängig von Auflösung des Mess- und Betrachtungsinstruments sind, und dass beide, ohne ihre subjektive Betrachtung, nicht existieren.
