Riss(fracture)200x140x3cm plaster/concretealexander levy, Berlin 2011By slowly increasing manual pressure onto the casted 200x140x3cm concrete panel, I generated a tiny fracture running straight through the material. The fracture‘s measurable length varies according to the distance between visitor and object. In fact, no objective determination of the fracture‘s scale can be made. The closer we ‚zoom‘ in, the more bifurcations (as the fraction had eaten itself down into the last cement crystal) have to be taken into account.Mit langsam zunehmendem Druck, den ich manuell auf die 200x140x3cm Betongussplatte ausgeübt habe, ist ein hauchdünner Riss entstanden, der sich quer durch die gesamte Breite und Tiefe des Materials frisst. Die objektive Länge des Risses ist nicht bestimmbar. Das Ergebnis ist von der Entfernung zwischen Betrachter und Objekt abhängig. Je weiter wir in das Material ‚zoomen‘ umso mehr Bifurkationen und Unregelmäßigkeiten müssen wir bei der Messung in Betracht ziehen, wenn wir der Spur des Risses folgen.
